Prior to founding Summit Trail Advisors, Jim led Barclays’ largest money management team in the U.S. He had joined Barclays in 2008 through the Lehman Brothers acquisition. Jim started his career at Sanford C. Bernstein, where he advised ultra high net worth families, endowments, and charitable foundations. He was named a Principal at the firm in 2005. Today, Jim continues to work diligently with an elite group of individuals, families and institutions.
In his earlier years, Jim played in the NFL for the Chicago Bears after serving on active duty as a commanding officer in the United States Army. Jim was captain of the 1995 Army football team, and during his tenure at West Point the team went undefeated against the Naval Academy. His time there was chronicled in John Feinstein’s best seller, A Civil War: Army vs Navy, A Year Inside College Football’s Purest Rivalry.
Jim is also a registered advisor through the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA).
